Hey cats and kittens! It’s been a while since we did a general update on what’s been happening in the land of the Wild and hirsute. Frankly there’s been so much going on over summer we’ve barely stopped expect to promote events we’ve been involved in – but there’s been so much more!
Staff News: Our lovely stylist Kate became a fully qualified Senior early this year, and has been helping out at the Perth store – those of you who’ve met her in either location will know just how wonderfully she fits in with our great crew. Kelsey our part time Melbourne junior has become a full time apprentice, and starts classes in a couple weeks. She just got her tools for the trade last week, and has a spanky new pair of PIRATE scissors – that’s right, PIRATE scissors! They are adorable, as is she. Everyone else is going great guns, and despite the economic downturn, we are still getting busier all the time- in fact we are always on the look out for new senior staff, so if you’re qualified please send us your resume! We won’t be looking for new juniors for at least 3-6 months or so though that’s also one the cards as well so if you’re interested in working with us in either case please send resumes to jobs@wildilocks.com.
New Products: As always new clothing is arriving all the time, with additions to the racks over the past few weeks including gorgeous Sekushi open rope-back 3/4 sleeve tops that we all adore, some super cute new style New Rock Boots, semi glove/arm sleeves in simple stripe and tribal patterns as well as fancier lace and velvet styles, volumious floor length ball skirts, and so much more. In hair product, we have been stocking Directions hair dye for a few months now and have been really impressed with this adjunct to our Special Effects range of intense semi-permanent colours: there are some slightly different shades, and they are as long lasting as SFX. Yummy! Also new on the radar are a couple of great certified organic products by Everescents and CHI: Our current favourite hair reviltaliser, the Organic Cinnamon and Patchouli Deep Treatment has become hugely popular with clients and staff alike; and we’ve just received new stock of our always popular CHI Tone & Shine colour enhancing conditioners: we’re very excited to discover the new range has become Certified Organic as this was not previously an organic product. Has necessitated a small price rise, but it’s so worth it to tread lighter on our planet.
Events: Things are a little quiet on the event front now Circa Nocturna is over, but the Antipodean League of Temporal Voyagers (the nominal organising body behind Euchronia) has just announced A Queen’s Birthday Dinner Voyage – a lovely steampunk-themed dinner aboard Melbourne’s Colonial Tramway Restaurant! That’s still a few months away but tickets are strictly limited, and available from the League website or in store @ The Lockworks.
New Treats: Finally, we have just updated our Wildilocks Treats blog with a new article on Vintage styling: Regency to early Victorian (the Jane Austen era) which is a gorgeous look indeed, see out lovely model Alice below:
Holiday Opening Hours: Please note that Wildilocks in both Perth and Melbourne will be closed the entire weekend of Easter from Friday 10th – Monday 13th April.
That’s all for this newsletter folks! Have a wonderful belated Vernal Equinox celebration and don’t stuff yourself with *too* much chocolate π

Wildilocks January Update: Coilhouse, events + more!
Well now that we are well and truly into the new year and post-Euchronia euphoria has settled (portrait photos are all up now btw, over here), it’s time to get back to the regular business of doing awesome hair and having many wonderful treasures available for you instore. Best news of the week: Coilhouse Issue #2 has just arrived! The new issue is cram packed full of beautiful images, fascinating stories, and our personal favourite bit – Wildilocks has a placement in the inside cover, shot by the ever-talented Nadya Lev, as below:
You can get Coilhouse from The Lockworks in Melbourne right now, online from our webstore with delivery as soon as overnight within Australia, and from next week @ BASE808 in Perth.
Events: We have tickets available @ The Lockworks for two brilliant fundraisers coming up @ The East Brunswick Club – The Girl From East Brunswick next Friday to aid the Greyhound Adoption Program, and Valentines @ The East from Sugar Kitten Cabaret on Valentines day, with all proceeds going to WIRE! You can buy these online from the Wildilocks webstore too, with limited seated tix available for Valentine’s.
Stock: We have a host of stock arrived recently in both stores, including many new items at incredibly reasonable prices from Phaze Clothing like pencil skirts, corset tops, dresses, shirts, miniskirts, manskirts, bows and hairclips, stripey socks, and new Covet vintage items including the cutest ruffly black tutu with built in knickers (yes, built in knickers!) and a whole lot more. We’re also expecting any day now a delivery of brand new Dolly Q miniature hats including bicornes, tricornes and top hats, even MORE Phaze, and always have many new plans up our sleeves π
Have a great Australia Day weekend and hopefully see some of you @ Golgotha!
Below: event flyers!
A host of thankyous from Euchronia!
Well, we’ve had a few days now to recover and try to put together some meagre words to express our amazement and gratitude to everyone who came to the Ball and made the event what it was. We truly were astonished at the breadth and variety of outfits, and the sheer numbers of people who clearly took much time and care with their presentation down to the most minute of details. Feedback has been pouring into our inboxes and we are genuinely humbled: yes, it was a phenomenal amount of work, but it’s all the participants who made Euchronia such a resounding success; so thankyou, thankyou, thankyou!
Our especial thanks go out to the following people: all our fantastic performers, including all the bands, dancers, cabaret artists & DJs, as well as Sir Frederick Chook with readings from the lovely Gill-Chambers for the League pre-event; Monica Zanchetta and Emma Kuetgens-Fitzpatrick of snackbarartspace.com and their assistants including Louis, Amanda, David, Kate, Jason and more with art & decoration; all our wonderful volunteers including Holly, Ash, Steph, Sarah, Cassandra, Sha & Matt who helped with catering, door, and various stage assist roles; Bernard of Assassinus for photography on the night; Two Cans Antiques and Black Dragon Blacksmiths for furniture loan, all the staff from Bella Union who did an excellent job both before and during the evening; everyone who assisted with promotion including Samantha Shields and models of the AMA, Peter Coulson of Koukei, Cloe Bunter, Katie Timpano, Dolly Q, Circa Vintage, Retrostar Vintage Clothing, Rose Chong Costume Hire and Wildilocks @ The Lockworks for clothing & Kat, Kate + Kelsey specifically for all their help with hair & general dogsbodying, Sarah & Cam for their early involvement, Jason for venue recommendation & Mel for contacts; all our ticket stockists and promoters, everyone who blogged, published articles or promoted to their membership about Euchronia including Gala, Horrorscope and Continuum; I’m sure we’ll have missed a few names here, hopefully any others not mentioned by name will know who you are and how much we appreciate your contributions, no matter how big or small!
Photos. We’ve been receiving links to many photos (there are already quite a few on flickr and elsewhere) and we have now created a photo gallery for any of you who’d like your images to be available on the Euchronia site – the Euchronia Gallery is linked to accounts already created for use with the forums and shopping cart etc, so you can just log in with your existing details to upload images into your own personal gallery! We’ve already added quite a few, but we’d love to see more more more! Please definitely consider adding photos to the Euchronia gallery especially if you’ve only been uploading to Facebook: only your friends can see those images and that’s especially unfair to people you may have photographed who don’t use Facebook. Our professional photos which so many of you were lining up to be shot by Assassinus in the Annex will be available during the coming week on the site too. Please note also that the gallery is still in development and a few things may move around in the coming weeks and there may be some error messages, but photos can be uploaded without problems and display fine. We will have video coming soon too!
The League. Finally, we’d like to let you know that this is just the beginning. The Antipodean League of Temporal Voyagers has plans afoot! If you are superkeen on steampunk, and interested in joining the League, standard memberships are still available, and we’re considering online-only membership as well. League membership now includes posting rights on the new community blog, antipodeanleague.org which while currently only in its infancy, we hope to grow to become a hub of activity and a primary source of steampunk news and information. The League rss feed is here.
Onward, and upward! As always, any feedback is appreciated: what your favourite moments were, how we may have improved the event, any anecdotes or information all gratefully received.
It’s time!
Weather forecast for 31st December, 2008:
Cloudy. Shower or two clearing. Winds west to southwesterly averaging up to 35 km/h. Airships take care to tether on at least two moorings. Min 12 Max 23
Tally Ho! It’s time for all our revelers to begin final preparations for The Night Ahead in which all manner of anachronistic hedonism comes to life in full, to whit, at Euchronia!
There are still some tickets for sale @ Peril Underground, Wildilocks @ The Lockworks & Heartland Records until close of business, and we will be taking online sales for door pickup until 5pm. There will be limited tickets available on the door, but be aware that our ticket sales are approaching capacity and we recommend coming early to avoid possible disappointment if you are planning on door purchase – as well as to see all the fantastic entertainment we have planned for the evening, of course!
We have added one last DJ to our lineup and that is DJ Louis, an old hand come to our rescue who’s been at the decks since the heady days of Subculture, Revelations and Abyss, though more recently Nemesis, DV8 and Gulag.
We’re also announcing a last minute philanthropic element to Euchronia. We’ve had notable interest from the age-challenged who cannot attend our 18+ event, so we have decided to offer a free carriage ride @ 8.30pm before the Event Proper for those who’d like to get into the Steampunk spirit, and who have come up to see the promenade of people entering but cannot do so themselves. You need to be under 18 and at the venue at 8.30; a maximum of 8 persons can be seated. First in, best dressed (or perhaps the other way around?)
Following below the cut is the set list for Euchronia, to allow you to plan your evening. Programmes will also be at the door.

BPAL finally in store! + holiday info for Wildilocks
Yes, after protracted tussles with customs, we are pleased to announce we FINALLY have Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs perfume oils in stock at Wildilocks @ The Lockworks, just in time for last-minute gift buying – though they will probably not arrive in Perth til Xmas eve or the day before! We have a selection of best sellers including Snake Oil and Embalming Fluid, the entire Phoenix Steamworks series, and of course, the Travelling Salon Exhibition which is not available from the BPAL website but only from retailers – the first time these scents have been available in Australia – and they are truly exceptional. If you are unaware of Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs, they are a well known and highly respected perfume house in the alternative scene in the USA, and produce scents of higher quality than many major producers.
We’ve also recently received new stock of lovely Dusk Moth fascinators in new and ever more dramatic styles, tons of corsets and skirts from Dolly Q and Asylum7, wonderful steampunk jewellery from Diamondfox, genuine analog open-back pocketwatches in gold and silver, Funky rave gear from KK, and much more.

Final Euchronia lineup announcement!
Hey folks!
It’s getting closer and closer to NYE (5 weeks now, give or take an hour or two!) and we are pleased to announce what will probably be the final additions to our already stunning bill! [See the performers page for the full lineup!]
Alex De La Rambelje: Magician! In true Victorian cabaret style, we have procured the services of a skilled illusionist. Alex follows in the tradition of turn-of-last-century sleight-of-hand wizards like Harry Houdini, whose mastery of manual dexterity left their audiences breathless. Alexβs act features authentic, traditional cabaret magic performed with the expertise and sophistication guaranteed to impress and enthrall even in these more sophisticated times.
DJ Lobotomy: a name which should be familiar to many of you as one half of the awesome Cabaret Nocturne team. DJ Lobotomy was one of our first picks for Euchronia, and we are very happy to finally be able to announce his addition to the bill. His playlist runs the gamut from Oldschool, Neo-goth, Industrial and EBM to Grunge, Britpop, Indie, Electro and 80’s trash.
Tickets for the night are $55 until the 15th December. If you managed to grab a specially-stamped flyer at the Cup Eve Golgotha and would like to attend Euchronia, you may still head into Wildilocks @ The Lockworks before that date to receive a $10 Golgotha discount.
We’re very excited to have so many folks coming from interstate — especially Sydney — as well as an ever-growing membership roster in the Antipodean League of Temporal Voyagers. If youβd like to partake of the benefits of League membership [which include a special members-only event prior to Euchronia, a shiny open-face pocketwatch with gears-a-whirring, a horse drawn carriage ride & much more] please take a look over here.
And finally, to any further potential interstate attendees and anyone who may be wishing to take advantage of our hotel offer in conjunction with the Victoria Hotel: please make your bookings before the 1st December to be guaranteed a room. (We may be able to accept more rooms under our group reservation after that date, but this is the date the hotel has given as a cut-off for guaranteed rooms.)
First release tickets only on sale for 3 more days! [Euchronia]
Also don’t forget Wastelands II Age of Iron Steampunk Convention [Perth, Australia] is only 36 hours away![/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column] [/et_pb_row] [/et_pb_section]
