Just a reminder that Circa Nocturna, Melbourne’s premiere alternative fashion show and part of the L’Oreal Fashion Festival, is just a few weeks away! Wildilocks @ The LockWorks has tickets for sale, they are $22. Don’t wait til the last minute, they’re more on the door!
The Age Article on “Fashion Tribes of Melbourne”
Check out this article just published today in The Age, both print and online and including a flash presentation, which showcases several subcultural styles: goth, raver and rockabilly. A couple of Wildilocks clients are featured, and The LockWorks is mentioned as the place in Melbourne to go for hair. Chuffed indeed we are! 🙂
Wildilocks website blog – time for some new content – models needed!
Hey folks,
Had a bit of a brainstorming session at the LockWorks today, and have decided to start getting some more solid content on this blog that isn’t just shop announcements and such [not that that isn’t quite useful, we just want to make it a bit more varied and interesting to casual wanderers-by…]
Kat is very keen to do some how to’s and general info posts on some vintage hairstyles and the Perth girls are already very keen to learn some of these skills, so I’m asking if anyone in Melbourne and Perth is keen to be a model for styling and photos to be featured on the blog! We’ll be looking at getting this together over the next month and will be happy to work in with model availability — ideally you’d be wanting something for a special night out, and would be able to dress in something relating to the time period emulated with accessories etc. Time periods and styles we are looking at: 1940’s [Victory Rolls/Rockabilly], 1920/30’s [pin curls, finger waves], late 1800’s [Victoriana, updo’s, ringlets]. Must be comfortable being photographed and won’t mind being fussed over for a couple of hours.
Melbourne dates: any time between now and February 2nd
Perth dates: Feb 5th – 9th [non-photo models Feb 12th – 16th]
There are limited spaces so if you are keen let us know asap!
Please express interest by leaving a comment or sending us an email to models@wildilocks.com, and include a pic of yourself if we don’t know you 🙂
Cheers!
Cass
Holiday free streak offer + last minute gifts…
Holiday free streak offer!
Hi folks! Wildilocks @ The LockWorks has been open for a little over a month now, and we’ve been hugely grateful for all the wonderful reviews we’ve received from our early clients! But as we’re still essentially a brand new business on the Eastern side of the country, we’re in need of more local promotion – and we need a little help! But we only have so many pairs of hands [and legs] so we thought we’d offer up a freebie just in time for the holidays, if you can exchange a little bit of your holiday time to help promote the new store!
What we are offering is free loose synthetic streaks, up to 10 per person – that’s up to $60 value just for helping us out a little, which I am sure you want to do anyway, right … right???
So, the deal is: 1 loose streak for every
* shop visited with flyers dropped [20 per store, you can choose an area or store/s convenient to you, or we can give you an area]
* 10 flyers given out on the street to individuals who look like they might like what we do
* blog or other internet based post mentioning the new Melbourne store [and this can include telling your friends about this offer if you think they might be interested too, as long as it’s publically viewable: only one per site/page though please]
If you are interested, please call Wildilocks @ The LockWorks asap on (03) 9642 3384 to make an appointment – don’t forget to mention you’re calling for the holiday free streak offer, and we’ll give you the flyers while you are in! This offer is valid til the end of the year [which is actually only 10 days away, eeek!]. If you are keen, don’t wait too long to call, as this promotion is only available for times we are not already booked!
Last minute prezzies
While we aren’t hugely big on the whole Xmas thing, we’re pretty okay with the original solstice festival it was stolen from, so in that spirit, if you’re looking for any last minute gifties, I thought I might also remind y’all that Wildilocks @ The LockWorks does more than just hair! We have a range of smaller gifty type items, and not too expensive, neither!
Just a small sample above, including but not limited to… Equinox chokers, Jellibats freaky plushies, stainless steel and sterling silver industrial and goth jewellery of diverse origin, Cyberoptix ties, clip in streaks, kitty ears, goggles, sunglasses, threadless tshirts, KittyCat Black chokers, led braids… etc etc etc you get the idea!
We are located upstairs at the corner of McKillop St and Little Collins St in the Melbourne CBD, just half a block from the Bourke St Mall! We are open normal hours except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.
Hope to see you soon!

Giveaways @ Wildilocks @ The LockWorks & @ BASE808!
Hi Folks!
Just to let you know thanks to the good folk at Cabaret Nocturne and Rivetting Promotions, we have a little giveaway to help promote the upcoming Das Bunker Down Under Assemblage 23 tour which is now just under a month away! Receive a free Das Bunker promo CD with every sale, including hair services. It’s very ebm/industrial, and also has some strangely compelling tracks on it, my favourite lyrics go something along the lines of “and then my second wife, she was the love of my life, but she wasn’t very bright, so I burned her with delight”… yes indeed, fun stuff!
Available only while stocks last, so errr, come down right away. Like, now. Get on a tram, bus, bandwagon, whatever is handy 🙂
Wildilocks @ The LockWorks is NOW OPEN!
Hi folks,
We have been busy bees refitting our new premises in Melbourne over the past six weeks, and just today passed our Health Inspection with flying colours, so I am pleased to announce that Wildilocks @ The LockWorks is now officially OPEN!
Our address is Level 1, 382 Little Collins St, with entrance on McKillop St – just a couple of doors down from CBD Nightclub, so many of you will already know exactly where to come as you may have been to 3D or DV8! You can find us listed on Google Maps shortly if you are not sure though!
Nearly all our clothing ranges have arrived, so we have good stock levels of a range of exciting goth/industrial/raver/hippie lines, including some certified organic cotton basics in black for the eco-conscious goth, as well as being the exclusive stockist of new clothing label Covet Couture from Perth, which I know many of you will be seriously impressed by – a great range of tops, skirts, dresses and shirts. We also have New Rocks in stock, and we have a range of jewellery and accessories including Kittycat Black chokers for the girls and Cyberoptix ties for the guys.
As far as hair stuff goes Our Special Effects hair dye stock is brimming full, as is our KnottyBoy dread stuff stock! We use only Chi ammonia free permanent colours & lightener in the salon – if you’ve never used an ammonia free colour or bleach before you’re in for a big surprise. Another item we have recently begun stocking in the Perth store and now in Melbourne too which many of you may never have heard of before but would find hard to do without once tried, is Biosilk Black Orchid colour maintenance conditioner – keeps dyed black hair *really* black.
Our Melbourne manager is Kat Martin, who is very familiar with the scene, has over 20 years of salon and teaching experience, specialising in colour and colour correction, alternative bridal, and (most excitingly) vintage hairstyles. She also runs Raqs Gothique, Melbourne’s Gothic Bellydance school and performance troupe. She will be available for appointments from Tuesday to Saturday.
We also have as a senior stylist on our initial team Nicole Taylor, who is well known to many of you as Error Diffusion, has significant experience with alternative hairpieces, and is also a fully qualified hair stylist and has been receiving many positive reviews from folks in the scene. You can make appointments with Nicole on Thursdays and Fridays.
The LockWorks opening hours are:
Tuesday – 10.00am – 5.00pm
Wednesday – 10.00am – 5.00pm
Thursday – 10.00am – 7.00pm
Friday – 10.00am – 7.00pm
Saturday – 10.00am – 5.00pm
The phone number in the store is (03) 9642 3384, and the main contact email address for the LockWorks is info@thelockworks.net
Also, have a brand spanking new flyer which you’ll be seeing about the traps very soon, in street press and maybe even a poster or two 🙂
Any questions, please ask! 🙂

Wildilocks is opening in Melbourne!
Hi folks, couple of exciting bits of news! Perth store @ BASE808 is doing well, with Shelley Pink at the helm, our first apprentice Meredeth has been with us for six months, and we’ve just started our second apprentice, Adele! But we’re not stopping there…
The good news for Melbournites is: Wildilocks is gearing up to open a new store, The LockWorks, in the Melbourne CBD early next month!
JOBS!
We are currently accepting resumes from qualified hair stylists and aspiring apprentices and will be holding interviews in 2-3 weeks. If you are interested in working with us in an alternative and goth-friendly environment, forward your resume to jobs@wildilocks.com, and please attach a recent photo along with any supporting documentation that may be relevant [evidence of skills, references etc].
STOCK?
In keeping with our practise of supporting local designers, Wildilocks would be interested to hear from any local Melbourne fashion and accessory designers with a view to stocking your products. We are particularly interested in items made with environmental awareness and quality/durability in mind, and we do not usually take consignment, prefer to buy wholesale. Please email details of your product to stockists@wildilocks.com.
APPOINTMENTS…
We will begin booking appointments from Tuesday November 13th though we may open slightly earlier than that date, and our opening hours will be Tuesday-Saturday, 10-5, with later trading on Thursday and Friday evenings. If you would like to make an advance appointment for any hair and extensions services, please email melbourneappointments@wildilocks.com. Prices will vary slightly from the Perth store [currently on the website] due to our higher overheads here.
We will also be looking for training models at greatly reduced prices and on shorter notice, for the following services: synthetic dreadlock extension installation & removal, wool extension installation & removal, human hair loose extension installation, maintenance and removal, permanent dreadlock installation, maintenance & removal. If you would like to be shortlisted for training model information, please email trainingmodels@wildilocks.com with the service[s] you are interested in.
CLUB PROMOTERS 🙂
We will have a dedicated poster wall & flyer area in our foyer, so please don’t forget to bring down your promo material once we are open! We are also interested in doing cross-promotional events. Drop us an email at promotion@wildilocks.com if you are running anything you think we might like to be involved in.
More info will be posted when we are closer to our Melbourne store opening date!
Any questions – please ask!
🙂

Combichrist tickets available now!
Combichrist are coming to Perth on July 7, and we have tickets available in store now, $45 plus $2 booking fee. This is going to be a huge gig so don’t miss out, get your tickets early 🙂
Also, we just had shipment today of our latest New Rock Boots order, as well as a huge new order of Threadless tshirts. And we’ll have more MOS phat pants next week, David has promised! Mostly microfiber, but he’s going to try and include some good black denim phatties too, but they are pretty low on stock still. Also on the near horizon are a couple of new labels that I’ll say more about when they’ve arrived, and hopefully more Nubia/Vodabox in the next few weeks. You may have noticed we have some clothing lines on the webstore now, but we have a lot more to add that will be up in the coming weeks.
Exciting stuff coming up!
Models needed!
Hey folks,
Need some models for cuts & colours: one just for colour available this coming Monday eve [6.30pm] for a seminar in Fremantle run by the Chi gals, coming over specially from Melbourne,
And ideally 2 style cuts and 2 colour models for this coming Wednesday anytime during the day. as we are trialing a new German guy who popped into the shop and declared his desire to work for us. He seems pretty cool and claims 7 years of experience in Germany, does funky stuff, and also does dreads but we’re not looking for those this Wed. Ideally we’d like something creative, and something involving foils for at least one of the colours to check out his foiling abilities.
Please let me know asap via comment or phone call to the shop during office hours if you are interested in any of these. No charge for cuts or the Monday night colour, but a small charge to cover the product for the colours on Wed would be required [less than $20 unless your hair is verrah long].
Thankyou!
It’s LIVE!
Okay folks, the new Wildilocks webstore is live. What a facelift! I still have alot of work to do, but the bare bones are there. Apologies if some items are missing: but you’ll find alot have already been added that weren’t there before. I’ll be doing some promo over the next few days as long as I have time while over in Melbourne before the Suitable Transport ride, and as long as there are no huge dramas with the site either. But I will let you know now, if you create an account with the Webstore before the end of June, you’ll get a completely no strings attached $15 gift voucher to spend on anything in the store: no expiration date and no minimum purchase!
